The rules of these games are identical to that of land-based versions of the game. The croupier will still impose a time limit of bets and once the physical roulette wheel is in motion and the ball is spinning, betting closes just like it does down your local Grosvenor. Roulette is a casino game named after the French word meaning little wheel. In the game, players may choose to place bets on either a single number, various groupings of numbers, the colors red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or if the numbers are high (19–36) or low (1–18). UNDERSTAND ROULETTE BETTING, PLAYS AND PAYOUTS Column bets: this is a bet placed on a column of twelve numbers in one of the three vertical lines (such as 1-4-7-10 on down to 34). Rules Of American Roulette The main aim of American Roulette, as with all other versions, is to guess what number will be spun in the next game. A wheel is spun and a small ball dropped in which comes to rest in one of the 38 slots. Payouts are then made for all bets that guessed correctly.

OBJECTIVE OF ROULETTE: Correctly predict the outcome of spins and bet on them for returns.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 1 to 7 players

MATERIALS: A roulette wheel, a roulette table with respective layouts for a single variation, casino chips, or cash.

TYPE OF GAME: Projective Spin Game

OVERVIEW OF ROULETTE

Roulette is a casino classic with three main variations – European, French, and American. The game is played with a numbered spinning wheel and a small ball marker. Players place their respective bets on the table and the outcome of each spin determines which bets should be paid out by the croupier.

SETUP

The roulette table comes built-in with the spinning apparatus. Cash or casino chips are placed as bets within the gridlines drawn on the table. The wheel is spun, and a marker ball is dropped in to clearly mark the final outcome.

GAMEPLAY

Players place their bets on the respective areas of the table marking their bets. Once all bets have been made the croupier spins the wheel and drops a marker ball into the wheel pocket. The dealer then pays out all winning bets and collects losing bets.

FRENCH ROULETTE

French roulette is played with a 37-pocket wheel, with a single, green '0' pocket. The gameplay includes two additional rules – 'en prison' and 'la partage'.

EN PRISON

This rule is open to strictly even-money bets. Should the wheel land on a zero, the player is presented with two move options :

  • Forfeit the round and claim half their bet.
  • Leave the bet 'en prison', or frozen until the next spin. The bet then becomes an all-or-nothing, requiring the outcome to match the imprisoned bet. Should the wheel stop at '0' again, the player loses his bet.

LA PARTAGE

La partage is also applicable to even-money bets. In this rule, any player with an outside bet is compensated with half their bet value, whenever the wheel stops at '0'.

ADDITIONAL REGIONAL RULES

  • Netherlands – Consecutive '0' spins allow bets to apply the 'en prison' rule twice.
  • France – There is an 'even-chances rule' that allows players to again bet for the same color, whenever the wheel lands on a green '0'.

EUROPEAN ROULETTE

European roulette is also played with a 37-pocket wheel. The rules and odds are the same as French roulette. However, the layout of the betting grid is different. As for the 'la partage' and 'en prison' rules, these are offered at the discretion of the house for this variation.

AMERICAN ROULETTE

American roulette is played with a 38-pocket wheel, with two green pockets, marked '0' and '00'. The layout of the American roulette table differs greatly from that of the French and European tables. Among the rules for this variation are :

The wheel looks different based on which country you are in. In most places the wheel is composed on the numbers 1 through 36 randomly placed throughout the wheel. There are special rules that can be played with. These include the En prison and La partage rules. For en prison rules when a 0 the players have two choices. They can either take half their bet back and lose the other or they can leave the bet for the next spin of the wheel. For La partage rules there is no choice, players just get back half their original bet and lose the other.

American Roulette Rules And Payout Sheet

There are slight differences between American and other forms of roulette.

In America when the ball lands on 0 or 00 all bets not made on those numbers specifically are lost. They can also use the en prison and la partage rules as well but these occur when either 0 or 00 is landed on.
